It’s no joke. Learning about water safety is serious fun. Go for a refreshing swim at Forest Park Swim Center, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd. from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday April 16 and learn skills that could save a life. All ages are invited to play games, put on life jackets, ride in canoes and kayaks, and learn about safety while playing in or around water.  This annual event, which is sponsored by Everett Parks and Recreation and the Drowning Prevention Coalition, aims to reduce drowning deaths. The Everett Public Library is among the top 10 finalists in the nationwide Playaway Picture This Contest — a chance to win $10,000 for the library. “We will use the money to support our children’s summer reading program, to buy more books for teens, and to help fund a community reading program for adults,” Everett Library Director Eileen Simmons said. “It’s a very exciting opportunity.” Out of hundreds of entries, the Everett Public Library was selected as a finalist based on its outstanding participation in Playaway’s patron awareness campaign.  Playaways are one of the most popular new audiobook formats in the library; providing patrons the portability of a digital audiobook with the grab-and-go convenience of a physical format – creating the only all-in-one format that makes audiobooks accessible for everyone, regardless of age or ability.  The Forest Park Swim Center welcomes ghosts, goblins, ghouls and other costumed friends ages 3-15 to a fun Halloween-themed swim party from 7-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 22. Kids and their parents can show off their costumes while playing on-deck games – pumpkin toss, duck pond fishing, pin the minnow on the pumpkin and more. Fill treat bags with prizes!
