H.M. Jackson High seniors offer mini-sports for elementary students

On Sept. 25, H.M. Jackson High School (JHS) senior class will be sponsoring a mini-sports camp for elementary school students. Students in grades 1-5 will be able to choose three of five sports in which to participate (tennis, flag football, basketball, cheerleading and soccer). Every year, JHS does a variety of fundraisers in order to support the senior class. This year, the senior class challenged themselves to do something more than a fundraiser. The mini-sports camp fundraiser will help create interschool relationships, build up the sports program and introduce students to a variety of sports as well as create school spirit, healthy lifestyles and incorporate leadership skills. Did you miss Dan Wilson? He’s coming back. And there will be bobble-heads!

The special appearance by former Mariners catcher Dan Wilson that was originally scheduled for last Sunday has been rescheduled for this Saturday, Aug. 28. The Sox will host the Eugene Emeralds at 7:05p.m. at Everett Memorial Stadium. Wilson was originally scheduled to appear Sunday but the 2:05 p.m. game was postponed due to rain. The M’s legend is set to throw out the ceremonial first pitch Saturday and will be signing free autographs from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. in the lower concourse area behind home plate. Read more »

Randy “The Natural” Couture, the Everett-born UFC hall of famer has been enduring verbal taunts lately from his upcoming opponent, James “Lights Out” Toney, as they prepare for UFC 118 in Boston this Saturday August 28. Toney, 42, the former three-weight world boxing champion declared “I’m coming for you princess!” in a commercial for the event. Things got uglier when Toney put a Couture action figure in a dress last month at UFC 116.

Washington Stealth and Walax Present Indoor Lacrosse Training Camp This Fall

The Washington Stealth and Walax.com will run an 8 week training camp for Box Lacrosse! Spread over 8 weeks in 3-hour sessions in three different age groups, players will be instructed by World Champion NLL Washington Stealth players and coaches. Come learn how to play REAL Box Lacrosse from the best in the world!! Stealth coaches and players will be on hand to instruct Puget Sound lacrosse players for an eight-week indoor lacrosse training program beginning September 11. Participants in this session of the Stealth Lacrosse Academy include Head Coach Chris Hall, and players Jason Bloom, Rhys Duch, Chris O’Dougherty and Lewis Ratcliff. Former Mariners All-Star Will Make Appearance at Aug. 22 AquaSox Game

Former Seattle Mariners catcher Dan Wilson will make a special appearance at the Aug. 22 Everett AquaSox game against the Tri-City Dust Devils. Sunday’s game, part of Mariners Day at Everett Memorial Stadium, is set to begin at 2:05 p.m. Wilson will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the ballgame and will be signing free autographs and taking pictures with fans from 2:15 to 3:35 p.m. in the concourse area behind home plate. The Cincinnati Reds traded Wilson to Seattle in 1993, where he spent the final 12 years of his 14-year MLB career. Known for his superb defensive ability, Wilson finished his career with a .995 fielding percentage and played in more games at catcher than any other player in Mariners history (1,237). He was also selected to the 1996 MLB All-Star Game. Read more »

Lake Side Skimboarding presents the Third Annual PSTD on Jetty Island. Tide pool sessions on kickers, ramp to rails, and ollie-on features. A free passenger ferry ride takes you to the man made island. Be sure to get there early, boats fill up fast. It all happens on Saturday, August 14 at 10th Street and W. Marine View Dr. Everett, Wa. 98201. Ferry boats start running at 10am. We suggest that people get there before that to get onto the island early. Local fans of the  Seattle Sounders football (otherwise known as Soccor) can view the games at The Irishmen in Everett. The next game is August 18. Located in picturesque downtown Everett, the Irishmen is open 7 days a week  Monday through Friday. They are open 11am until 2am and on Saturdays and Sundays  which they are open for breakfast at 9am and stay open until 2am. Washington Stealth adds two players in Orlando dispersal draft

The Washington Stealth added some more depth on the defensive end with the selection of Chet Koneczny and Matt Zash in a dispersal draft of the Orlando Titans roster.  Koneczny was the tenth overall selection in the draft and Zash picked up in the second round (20th overall). Koneczny, a 26-year old native of Nova Scotia, joined the Orlando Titans roster as a free agent prior to the 2010 season.  He appeared in all 16 regular season games, recording 14 points on two goals and 12 assists and 78 loose balls in his first NLL season.  The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder was originally drafted in by the Toronto Rock in the 2004 NLL Entry Draft and spent time on the Rock’s practice squad in 2005 and 2006.
