USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) Sailors have lost nearly 1,000 pounds in just more than a month, as of Nov. 8, as part of a ship-wide weight-loss competition. The Lincoln Health Promotions Committee modeled the competition after “The Biggest Loser” TV show. Teams of two Sailors each vie to lose the most combined weight (by percentage) during a 72-day period. The weight loss measured to date includes totals reported at voluntary periodic weigh-ins.

Chief Hospital Corpsman Michael Zarella, the committee co-chair, helps coordinate the weight loss program in tandem with the on board Morale, Welfare and Recreation fitness class instructors. Zarella said the program was part of a larger effort to encourage greater health overall.

“We’re trying to instill a culture of fitness into the Abraham Lincoln crew; to encourage people to work out and lead a healthy lifestyle,” Zarella said. Read more »

Have you tried Reiki yet?
denisegl | October 30, 2010 | 1:06 pm

By Denise Galasso-Liedlich

When someone is pain for a long time, eventually they will try anything for relief. Unfortunately some of the naturopathic medicine is still pooh-poohed over but really people.. It’s time to open our eyes and try some of the very best healing that has been around since the beginning of man kind. After suffering from Fibromaylgia, chronic fatigue and some behavioral health issues, I have healed quite well and am at my healthiest. Sometimes though I still have set backs and need some help. I searched and tried a billion different ways to heal. I took all the advice I could get and never gave up on the possibility of abundant health. I now have a team of health care professionals that range all over the scale from PhD’s to holistic healing gurus. I love them all. They all help me and I encourage you to try a new practice that you haven’t tried before. It was just recently that I was feeling excessively tired. My concentration was off and I just had that cloudy heaviness in my head. I had just had my blood taken and everything was very normal. I needed something different than the usual and I knew I wouldn’t get it at the pharmacy. I had heard of Reiki but I had not tried it before.  I was drawn to visit the educational bookstore Vision Quest Center 2602 Colby and see if I could get my spirits lifted. It was there that I met Betty L. Rohner, B.A, M.Ed. is a certified reiki master and owner of Crystal Vision Gallery. After talking with her about how I was feeling, she offered me a reiki treatment.  The following is a description from Betty’s website about reiki. Read more »

Dawson Chiropractic 9404 Evergreen Way (425) 353-8332

Patients often share complaints that it is complete chaos finding a doctor who will just listen. And when it comes to pain, doctors just can’t make it go away.  Mostly there is a tremendous emphasis on how doctors rush from one patient to another lacking care and proper bedside manner. Of course not all doctors are bad. Just like anything else you’ve got to sort through many to find the best.

Today, I’d like to introduce you to Dr. Michael L. Clark of Dawson Clark Chiropractic Clinic at 9404 Evergreen Way in Everett. If you are wondering what kind of doctor is the right kind? Dr. Clark is definitely the right kind of doctor. Read more »
