Cleanup projects progressing around Port Gardner Bay

Cleanup work continues to move ahead at several sites around Port Gardner Bay in Everett.  The Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) identified Port Gardner Bay as a high-priority, “early-action” cleanup area under the Puget Sound Initiative (PSI). That’s an effort by local, tribal, state and federal governments, business, agricultural and environmental communities, scientists, and the public to restore and protect the health of the Sound.  Ecology is managing or assisting with the cleanup of 10 sites contaminated with gasoline, diesel fuel, metals, and other substances. An Ecology team is working with the Port of Everett, other site owners, area tribes, and others to help shape the cleanups.  “We’ve made great progress on our cleanup work,” said Andy Kallus, Ecology’s baywide project manager for Port Gardner.  “In addition to getting started on cleanup plans for Riverside Business Park, we currently have cooperative cleanup agreements with liable parties for seven of the 10 PSI sites.
