Silvertips announce new schedule!

Zack Dailey Commits to the University of Alberta; Utilizing WHL Scholarship

Zack Dailey the two-time Team Captain and American-born center has committed to the University of Alberta for the 2010-11 season. The announcement was made yesterday by Everett Silvertips Vice President/ General Manager Doug Soetaert on Wednesday. Dailey, a righthanded shooter from Healy Alaska, finished his Silvertips career by appearing in 330 WHL games, ranking second in club history. Read more »

Kyle Beach scrapping and fighting on Day One of Blackhawks prospects camp

Former Silvertip, Kyle Beach, is a player that Tips fans either love or hate, with his on-ice attitude and frequent scrums and fights. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that on Day One of the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhaws developmental prospects training camp, Beach already had an on-ice fight with a potential teammate. NHL.com correspondent Brain Hedger reported that 6-2, 200-pound free agent John Kurtz hopped onto the ice in the second scrimmage and invited the 6-3, 210-pound Beach to tango. Read more »

Silvertips Select Jesse Huhtala at CHL Import Draft

The Silvertips have selected forward Jesse Huhtala of Pori, Finland in the CHL Import Draft. Huhtala, a 93-born lefthanded shooter who stands 6’1 and weighs 175 pounds, was selected 52nd overall by the Silvertips after completing a season with the Assat U-18 team in which he posted 28 points on 14 goals and 14 assists along with eight penalty minutes. In nine playoff games with Assat, he recorded 12 points on eight goals and four assists.

“Jesse has good hands, and we’ve all been impressed with his skating ability,” Silvertips General Manager Doug Soetaert noted. “We feel he’ll be an excellent fit up front for our hockey club.” Read more »

OHL’s Soo Greyhounds Competing in Holiday Inn Preseason Classic

Everett Silvertips Vice President / General Manager Doug Soetaert announced that the Ontario Hockey League’s Soo Greyhounds will be joining the Everett Silvertips, Portland Winterhawks, Tri-City Americans, Seattle Thunderbirds and Spokane Chiefs at the annual Holiday Inn Pre-Season Classic, held over Labor Day Weekend from September 3 – 5 at Comcast Arena. The three-day tournament will mark the first time that Everett has competed against a team outside of the Western Hockey League. The Silvertips will face off against Sault Ste. Marie on Friday, September 3, Tri-City on Saturday, September 4, and will close the tournament against Seattle on Sunday, September 5. All Silvertips games will begin at 7:00 pm. After facing Everett on Friday night, Sault Ste. Marie will play Portland at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 4, and Tri-City at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 5. Read more »

Everett Silvertips extend contracts of coaching staff

Everett Silvertips Vice President / General Manager Doug Soetaert announced Wednesday that the contracts of Head Coach Craig Hartsburg, Associate Head Coach Jay Varady, and Assistant Coach Chris Hartsburg have been extended through the 2012-13 season. In 2009-10, the Silvertips posted the second-best regular season in franchise history by finishing 46-21-3-2 for 97 points, tying the Tri-City Americans for the most points in the Western Conference while allowing a WHL-low 175 goals. Silvertips owner Bill Yuill is adding another hockey team to his portfolio

Tanner Wilson of the Texas Ice Hockey blog is reporting that Silvertips owner Bill Yuill will be acquiring the Texas Tornados, a North American Hockey League (NAHL) Junior A affiliate of the Dallas Stars based in Friso, Texas. The announcement will be made at a Texas Tornados press conference, scheduled for 10 a.m. Central Time on Friday morning May 21. Reportedly, part of the announcement is a long term lease with the Dr. Pepper Arena to keep the Tornados in Friso, TX. Yuill is a Canadian sports and media mogul, as the chairman and CEO of the Monarch Corporation in Medicine Hat and president of Consolidated Sports Holdings. Zach Hamill makes NHL debut with Boston Bruins

Former Everett Silvertip Zach Hamill, who has been playing with the AHL Providence Bruins since departing the Silvertips in 2007, made his NHL debut on Sunday with the Boston Bruins. Hammil’s efforts helped Boston defeat the Washington Capitals in a 4–3 shootout in DC. The Boston Bruins called up Hamill from the AHL farm team to center the second line in Sunday’s game. Just minutes into the first period, Hamill got high-sticked by the Capitals’ Alexander Ovechkin, one of the top scorers in the NHL. Read more »

Peter Mueller out with concussion

The Colorado Avalanche organization is reporting that former Silvertip and current Colorado Avalanche forward Peter Mueller was not on the ice on Monday for practice. Head coach Joe Sacco said after the skate that Mueller suffered a concussion and is out indefinitely. He is not expected to join the club for the next four games of the regular season.

“Peter has been an important player for us and a very useful player for us since the trade,” said Sacco. “Like we’ve done all year long, we’ve got to rally around it. Read more »
