Mike Beckom, an award-winning South Carolina cartoonist for The Palmetto Scoop, published a Boeing cartoon on Friday, as an answer to some of the Washington-originated jokes that have gone south. Particularly, the Seattle PI’s cartoonist David Horsey depicted an airplane manufacturing scene complete with his admittedly over-the-top hangman’s noose and Confederate flag.

Beckom described his return volley in a phone interview with a South Carolina news affiliate.

“The cartoon basically has a lawn mower repairman and he fixed the problems with a Boeing airplane. And the problems being the whiney unionized Yankees, who think that they know it all and can do everything better than Southerners,” Beckom said.

The PI isn’t the only respectable news media slinging unwanted mud pies down south. The Herald’s blog known as “The Buzz” posted some Boeing-related southern humor that put a bee under the bonnet of a Mississippi resident who responded with a letter to the editor in The Herald.

Are we done yet?
