Stay home if you are sick.
A few weeks ago, I was feeling down perhaps with a touch of what seemed like flu symptoms. It was sinusitis. I know this because I went to the doctor to make sure that my illness was not contagious. It is not. Finding out what was the cause of my illness is a priority so that I can protect my friends and others that I come in contact with.

I was finished with Christmas and couldn’t wait for New Year’s to be over. Looking forward to a regular schedule and a clean slate is what I have been looking towards.

This year my resolution is to stop pushing myself to oblivion. Seriously, I am slowing the heck down this year. No diets, no extreme fitness. In fact, I would like to add an hour of TV to my schedule. But that’s just me trying to find balance.  My other resolution is to give back to my favorite city, Everett, WA with education and help. But first, I had to get healthy. Read on to learn how to fight the flu.

First I thought I would get into shape so I tried some hot yoga. Bad idea for me.  Surrounding myself around twenty sick people coughing and detoxifying without covering their mouths because they were trying to put their ankles behind their ears was not good for me. I watched people in the mirror behind me coughing up and out right into the air of a heated 105 degree room. Heat = manifestation of germs. Please understand.  I am not saying that I think hot yoga is bad for all people. I’ve been practicing Yoga for over 10 years and I do advocate anything that makes YOU feel better. In the future of this blog, I plan to do a series of the local Everett/ Yoga classes so that you can decide what is right for you. But I do plan to be honest. When I am stronger I might return to hot yoga because the benefits are awesome. Let me repeat; when I am stronger as in NOT sick. For now, I will stay home.  If I advertise for a business on this site, it is because I do believe in the product for SOME, not for all. The point is that sick people need to cover their mouths or STAY HOME.

Next I figured I would go to a prayer group. Who can’t use a little spiritual guidance, right?  I watched my friend cough and cough without a tissue and then she placed her hand in mine. The next day I was back in bed.

When I felt a little bit better I decided to try and go back out again. I visited a friend who had a small gathering for New Year’s Eve. There were no drugs or drinking involved but a lot of hugs…which I enjoy because hugs heal. However the next day, I was SICK.

Of course I questioned, is it me? Well maybe I should stop trying to make myself better by pushing myself out. I could take a walk if I feel pent up. If I want everyone else to feel better than I need to make myself feel better first. And I think I will begin by staying home and keeping some tissues on me. I love Everett and the people and businesses. My other resolution was to help keep our city safe.

Just take this as a reminder, please cover that flu that you think has passed. Please teach your little children to cover their mouths. They will do it and they get real proud when you tell them how smart they are when they do so.

Please use the anti-bacterial lotion you see around town. Someone worked hard to make sure that it was there to protect you and your families. You don’t have to go nuts and shower with it. Just use it when you see it.

Thank you Everett for all the hard work that you do in providing us with great places to go and awesome people to know. Have a great New Year, educate yourself about the flu and cover up!
