The Silvertips organization and fans celebrated Fire Fighter Appreciation night at Saturday night’s game. After the ceremonial puck drop by the Everett Fire Department Chief Murray Gordon and Snohomish County Fire Prevention Association President Robert Marshall, the Tips played three periods of incendiary offense, launching 43 scorching shots on goal in a fiery 5–1 barn burner over the Spokane Chiefs. Kent Simpson’s goaltending and 17 saves dampened the spark of the Chiefs’ offense.

On the concourse at Comcast Arena, members of the Snohomish County Fire Prevention Association staffed a display table to educate the 6,900+ hockey fans in attendence about fire prevention. Kids and their families gathered to collect informational handouts, fire-themed schwag, pens, stickers, and those cross-generationally popular red plastic fire hats.

“We want to get families to talk about and then start doing a home escape plan,” commented Kristen Thorstenson, Public Information Officer for the Marysville Fire District. “Children are a good way to get information to the families.”

Autumn Waite is the Public Information Officer for Snohomish County Fire District 7 who participated in the Silvertips’ annual Fire Fighter Appreciation night last year and again on Saturday night.

“We appreciate the Silvertips for giving us the opportunity to be here. This partnership helps to get information out to the community,” Waite commented.
